How does a SunFlair Tubular Skylight work?

The picture above shows the profile of the standard 13" tubular skylight. Sunlight enters the rooftop UV protected dome and is reflected off the silver-lined tubing and onto the ceiling-mounted diffuser inside your home. The diffuser softens the light entering the room which prevents fading of you carpet and furniture like traditional skylights are prone to do. Our straight-thru pipe design allows more sunlight to enter the room than competitors tubing with angles or corrugated walls.

Important parts of the SunFlair Tubular Skylight

Flashing- The flashing is the first line of defense against leaks since it connects the skylight to your roof decking.  The flashing is exposed to harsh weather and effects from the environment.  Our flashing is a one-piece, seamless protector made from ABS plastic.  It is also important to note that there is no step flashing involved with the SunFlair Tubular Skylight.

Dome- Like the flashing, the dome is also exposed to the harsh conditions of the environment.  The dome covers the silver-lined tubing and allows light to enter the skylight. Our dome is made of acrylic and is UV protected.  Also, our dome has an extended lip which  keep rain and debris out of the tubular skylight.

Tubing- The type of tubing in the skylight will determine the quality of light that is given off.  We offer tubing that is lined with actual silver, and offers a straight-thru pipe installation for more light.   The silver lining is important for reflection purposes--fully 97% of the sunlight is reflected into the home or office through the diffuser.

Diffuser- The diffuser is the part of the skylight that the consumer will see on a daily basis. It is important to have a clean and professional appearance.  We offer a contemporary looking skylight.  Other competitors offer a tubular skylight that is installed flush with the ceiling which cast shadows around the ceiling and in parts of the room.  Our diffuser comes down about 1-2 inches which allows the light to spread evenly to all areas of the room.
